CASTING!

Hunter reads with Mekiah as Laura looks records the audition

We had quite a few roles to fill! Casting was tough as we have a fairly large cast. We printed out sections of the script that were most dramatic and Hunter played the role oppossite the actors as they auditioned.

As the casting director, Laura taped all the auditions and walked the actors through the audition process. We later watched the audtions in class and made our decisions.

We had a really hard time casting Ms. Joucken, the culinary teacher. We really wanted the real Ms. Joucken to play the role, but we had issues with her limited availability. We ultimately went with her and decided that she was worth shooting around her schedule. Our lead actor pulled out at the last minute to go on a trip to houston. That threw a wrench in things, so we reached out to our second pick for the part, Mekiah Fox. He was grounded! Luckily, his parents made an exception for us!

Three people wanted to direct this years film. So each director pitched their vision for the film to the producers and drew up one page of storyboards. The producers had a hard time deciding between the cadidates. There wasn't an obvious choice, as each director had their strengths and weaknesses. It took a few call backs and personal interviews to finally decide. Congrats to James, a student that transfered into this program at the beginning of this year!
